Meet the 2026 Summer Interns

The Manresa Wilds internship program is one of the ongoing initiatives of the Research & Education Station at Manresa Wilds (R.E.S.A.). This summer, six interns in various departments are working alongside Manresa Island Corp. staff and R.E.S.A. partners to support the park’s ongoing development, providing students with hands-on experience in the many disciplines required to realize the park's vision.

Curious what a summer at Manresa Wilds looks like? Read on for a glimpse into each intern's work and a Q&A with the team.

I have been working on and am really excited to complete the gallery installation in the power plant featuring art from Wesleyan students in the Environmental Arts Research class.

What aspect of the park are you most excited about?

I am super excited to explore the trails in the Northern Forest!

Elias Theodore, Development Intern

New Haven, CT

I’ve really enjoyed researching organizations similar to and aligned with Manresa Wilds, from public parks and conservation projects to foundations focused on environmental remediation, hands-on education, and expanding access to nature. It’s been exciting to learn from these different models, consider how they connect to our work here, and even imagine future partnerships.

What’s your favorite place on site?

I love walking out onto the dock. The view of the power plant from the water and the feeling of the wind coming off the Sound are so special.

McKenna Barker, Arts and Culture Intern

Exeter Township, PA

I am super excited for the SoNo Arts Festival! I am working on some super fun activities and designs for Manresa's booth, including a collaborative art project with the local community. It's a great opportunity to connect with the local community and let art drive the engagement. I'm also working on some artwork and designs for Manresa out on Sheffield Island!

What aspect of the park are you most excited about?

I am most excited for the beach on the site to be opened to the public!

Lilly Bartilucci, Marketing and Communications Intern

Norwalk, CT

I’m looking forward to creating video content to share updates on the Northern Forest's progress. It’s been amazing to learn about the thoughtful ecological and design choices driving the project. I have also enjoyed contributing to our blog and social media pages.

What’s your favorite place on site?

I love going up to the roof of the power plant. It’s awesome to be able to see the city I’ve grown up in from a new perspective. Even better, on a clear day you can see the New York City skyline!

Juliana Canales, Community Engagement Intern

Norwalk, CT

I’m looking forward to connecting with local residents from Norwalk and Fairfield county to share the progress and mission of Manresa! This park is a park for all and I want everyone to feel welcomed.

What aspect of the park are you most excited about?

I am most excited for the Northern Forest to open soon! I love going on walks and hikes so the trails are something I’m looking forward to exploring.

Jackson Fiscina, Design and Construction Intern

Norwalk, CT

I'm grateful the team trusted me to compare the contractor's schedule of values against our internal budget on a contract this size, and that I get to work with the contractors on safety and keeping the schedule on track.

What’s your favorite place on site?

I enjoy the balcony of the old water treatment building—most days I eat lunch there with a great view of the Norwalk Islands.
