A Landscape Like Nowhere Else

The Power

Plant Reborn

Once the source of energy for the region, the Power Plant is getting a radical second life as a community hub designed for learning and discovery. Fossil fuel infrastructure will be transformed into social infrastructure, with industrial remnants revitalized as year-round spaces designed to spark connection and curiosity.

These colossal spaces, once roaring with machinery, will soon come alive again with people playing, learning, and connecting.

Smokestack

Once a symbol of industrial power, the iconic smokestack will be a new landmark for Norwalk. Entwined by a shaded pavilion, visitors can lounge, swim, and take in views of the Sound under its shadow.

Turbine Hall

A dramatic civic gathering space for gatherings large and small.

Administrative Building

A welcoming hub with visitor amenities, a café, and flexible community spaces.

Boiler Building

A hands-on hub for discovery for researchers, students, and curious visitors.

A new legacy takes shape

What was once a symbol of industrial might will become a landmark for public life—a place where Norwalk's past and future meet under one roof. From dramatic event halls to sun-filled cafés, from verdant research labs to a poolside pavilion in the shadow of the smokestack, the building offers something for everyone in every season. Preserving thousands of tons of steel and concrete from the waste stream, the project demonstrates that adaptive reuse is the most sustainable way to build—and offers a blueprint for transforming decommissioned industrial sites across the region.
